[IER] IER email list problems resolved

Dear Institute of Employment Rights newsletter subscriber

Further to the message below from James Harrison of IER, GreenNet would
like to apologise for the unexpected emails you received today. This
was a temporary technical glitch.

I hope you will continue to be a member of the list for up to date
information on employment rights and trade union freedoms. Normally the
list includes about one briefing a week on labour law and forthcoming
events.

As James said, these emails had nothing to do with any malware or virus,
and the only data disclosed would be if you sent email to the
ier-elist at ier.org.uk address, in which case it may have gone to other
e-list subscribers before we rectified the moderation issue at 12:53 pm
BST.

The reason for the problem was that the email list was incorrectly
configured as a discussion list, and once Charlotte had accidentally
replied to the list address (which is mostly only visible on the
"digest" edition), many other people sent a "Reply All".

Once again, apologies.

All.

It appears there has been a technical glitch to our emails which has allowed
an individual to respond to our central database. To clarify, this is not a
virus nor has it been caused by a virus. This was accidentally caused by one
of our subscribers hitting the reply button in error. However we do have
failsafe's for this eventuality, which appear to have not worked on this
occasion through an unexpected glitch.

Please rest assured that no personal data has been shared, unless an
individual has shared their data by replying to this email chain.

We have been in contact with our web providers who have stated that they
have solved the issue and are going to rectify this permanently as soon as
possible. They have said that they will send out a communication later today
to endorse this. In the meantime we appreciate your patience and
respectfully request that people signed up to our email list kindly stop
emailing back to the IER list, as this has made the problem much worse.

Kind regards.
