rities-0> for our 2015 Equality and Discrimination: post-election
priorities conference

The Institute of Employment Right's 10th Equalities conference will take
place under the UK's first Conservative majority government in almost two
decades. It will also take place at a time when the shadow cabinet consists
of a majority of women for the first time. The political landscape is
shifting and this IER event will consider how equality and
anti-discrimination laws will fair over the next five to ten years.

So what can we expect? David Cameron is supposedly committed to 'breaking
the link' between the European Court of Human Rights and the UK. The IER has
already identified those fundamental rights protected by the European
Convention, many of which cover equality and discrimination issues. So can
Cameron do it and what will be the implications for UK workers - issues to
be discussed at this event.

It's never been more important for us to assess the value of our equality
and anti-discrimination laws. We need to organise to protect what we have
won but also fight to extend those rights and claim what we are entitled to.

Talks at the conference will cover a number of areas and recent updates
within equality and anti-discrimination legislation including: pregnancy and
maternity, disability, race, religion and belief. The day will also include
a talk from The Equality Trust Director, Duncan Exley, on "Using Procurement
to promote equality."
