Dear subscribers
Tomorrow is a crucial day for the progress of the Trade Union Bill as the House of Commons will pass their final votes on the draft.
Some concessions have been won in the House of Lords, as detailed here, but the Bill still threatens our right to strike at a time when this is far from justified - industrial action is already at a historic low!
In particular, turnout and support thresholds will be put in place, particularly on the public sector, that present a barrier to trade unions garnering enough support to take action. This is completely unnecessary. Strikes are already a last resort for the labour movement and the proposed thresholds are much higher than for other democratic processes!
You can act to help support the labour movement today. Please take a moment during the day to tweet or email your MP - even if they’re a Tory! - to tell them why it is important to you that the Bill does not limit the ability of trade unions to protect the rights of their workers.
Many thanks
