news brief
Friday 29th July 2016
We're delighted to see another Labour MP support the proposals we made in

for the reinstatement of a Ministry of Labour and the repeal of the Trade
Union Act 2016.

saying: "We’d bring people together industry by industry to secure better
terms and conditions, particularly concentrating on sectors notorious for
poor pay like retail and hospitality."

.
It is great news for the UK that leading members of the Labour Party are
taking seriously the progressive reform of workers' rights, especially in a
post-EU environment where it is imperative that we build on employment law
rather than allow those on the right to resort to more austerity and
further cuts to workers' protections.

[image: Ballot Thresholds] The Conservative Government’s proposed strike
ballot thresholds: The challenge to trade unions: from £6
*By Professor Ralph Darlington and Dr John Dobson*
According to the authors of this timely report, the government is
attempting to rush into law ‘the most sweeping and radical tightening of

that such proposals could result in ‘the biggest showdown over industrial
relations for a generation’ and go on to drill down into one aspect of the
government’s proposals – strike ballots.

[image: Keithe Ewing] The mythology of business: from £6
*By David Whyte*
