Happy New Year from the Institute of Employment Rights!

Don't forget our new events calendar for 2017 <http://ier.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f121e48a8bb6d3101590c12d3&id=c351b88a1d&e=71131c031b> kicks off this month with a special event looking at Access to Justice in Liverpool <http://ier.us12.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=f121e48a8bb6d3101590c12d3&id=5687061c71&e=71131c031b> , and then in London in February <http://ier.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f121e48a8bb6d3101590c12d3&id=cc22a83bab&e=71131c031b> .

The government is currently consulting on yet more employment tribunal reform <http://ier.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f121e48a8bb6d3101590c12d3&id=cd36952237&e=71131c031b> amid controversy over the impact of its prohibitive fees regime. Last year, the Tories were accused of hiding evidence <http://ier.us12.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=f121e48a8bb6d3101590c12d3&id=f7814afa7d&e=71131c031b> of the destruction wrought on workers' rights by excessive barriers to justice when they repeatedly delayed releasing a report into the impact of the fees. To date, that report is still not available.

It's no wonder, as indications show its findings will be abysmal. Recent research by the TUC <http://ier.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f121e48a8bb6d3101590c12d3&id=610ea90731&e=71131c031b> revealed a fall of 73% in unfair dismissal claims, a drop of 71% in sex discrimination claims, and a slump of 58% and 54% respectively for race and disability discrimination cases.

Join tribunal judges Brian Doyle and Stuart Robertson at our forthcoming conferences, as well as an ACAS representative, for an inside view on the impact of recent reforms on access to justice. Also on the programme are legal experts from Thompsons Solicitors, Morrish Solicitors and Garden Court Chambers, who will present recent case precedents and what we can learn from them; and representatives from UNITE and UNISON, who will describe how the trade union movement is resisting attempts to weaken workers' ability to enforce their rights. See further detail on our speakers below, or click here to book in Liverpool <http://ier.us12.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=f121e48a8bb6d3101590c12d3&id=10d05f2bd9&e=71131c031b> , or here to book in London <http://ier.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f121e48a8bb6d3101590c12d3&id=a4c4b0dc82&e=71131c031b> .

Don't forget seats are also already being booked up for our first Migration after Brexit event in London <http://ier.us12.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=f121e48a8bb6d3101590c12d3&id=8000ded8cf&e=71131c031b> this March. How will Brexit affect our labour standards and the rights of migrant workers? The media has been speculating for months; now's your chance to hear the view of some of the UK's top academics, lawyers and trade unionists.

We hope to see you at one of our events this year, and if you benefit from our work, why not give yourself a New Year's treat with a subscription <http://ier.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f121e48a8bb6d3101590c12d3&id=50ea521a3a&e=71131c031b> to the Institute of Employment Rights. Subscribers have access to our entire library of publications for free - including new releases delivered to your doorstep! - and significant discounts on our conferences. The IER is a charity and our annual subscribers - whose contributions start at just £25 a year - are significant in helping to fund our work informing the trade union movement, and creating policy proposals that lay the groundwork for a progressive future in the UK, such as our new Manifesto for Labour Law <http://ier.us12.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=f121e48a8bb6d3101590c12d3&id=79a57f7a29&e=71131c031b> , which is now adopted by the Labour Party.
