In the news this week...

The Fair Work Commission has recommended <https://ier.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f121e48a8bb6d3101590c12d3&id=a1765f1831&e=71131c031b> the Welsh Government refer to the Institute of Employment Rights' Manifesto for Labour Law as part of a report on how the nation should encourage good workplace practices.

In a section of the Commission's report dealing with the 'gig economy', it noted that Westminster's Taylor Review has been widely criticised, signposting the Assembly to the Manifesto as well as IER publication Re-regulating zero-hours contracts <https://ier.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f121e48a8bb6d3101590c12d3&id=c922382497&e=71131c031b> among its recommendations for alternative strategies to dealing with insecure work.

Further, the Commission urged the Welsh government to "support and promote trade unions and collective bargaining" and define fair work as that which offers "employee voice and collective representation".

Among our Manifesto proposals, the Institute of Employment Rights suggests that workers should be given a voice at all levels of the economy, through enterprise level and sectoral level bargaining, the right to a vote at company meetings, seats on company boards, stronger trade union rights, a new Secretary of State for Labour with a Cabinet Seat, and the establishment of a National Economic Forum on which workers, employers and other stakeholders scrutinise policy for its impact on society.

Now we present Rolling Out, a guide to how our recommendations could be practically implemented.
