Join Professor David Whyte, Janet Newsham of the Hazards campaign and John Murphy of Unite the Union for a free online seminar hosted by the Institute of Employment Rights.
As the Coronavirus pandemic tragically brings workers' health and safety concerns to the fore, the panel will discuss the UK government's resistance to regulating working conditions.
Professor Whyte is coauthor of a new IER report, International health and safety standards after Brexit, due for release next week. In this publication, he and collaborator Andrew Moretta - both of the University of Liverpool - examine the consistent failure of UK governments to uphold international standards in health and safety for the last 40 years. The UK, it reveals, has ratified fewer than one in five ILO health and safety Conventions, embraced by the vast majority of its European peers.
The event will be held on the online Zoom platform at 7pm, Wednesday 06 May. Registration is required.

IER and Covid-19
Due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus disease and the need to keep our staff, supporters and speakers safe, IER have decided to postpone all forthcoming IER events and meetings until further notice, including both Health and safety at work after Brexit conferences in Liverpool and London, the IER Executive Committee, IER AGM and our joint event with the Campaign for Trade Union Freedom on 6th June.
IER staff will continue to work, but remotely from home. We will answer emails, produce publications and circulate our weekly News Briefs and other on-line information. However, phone calls to the office or mail sent by post will not receive immediate attention.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and wish you all best wishes during this difficult time.
