Irrespective of whether we've yet to reach "peak oil", there can be 
little doubt prices will continue to rise. Since 2008, economic 
activity has been subdued yet the oil price has more than doubled. As 
reserves become more expensive to extract and environmental 
protection imposes higher costs, the inexorable rise of oil prices 
will continue.

Crude Oil and petrol prices


It has been said up to 80% of the cost of food is represented by oil, 
for production, transport, fertilisers and herbicides. GMO foods 
similarly rely on oil based chemicals. It is essential we rethink 
food production which means a revolution in farming.



This documentary, by a farmer's daughter turned film maker, 
illustrates the role of oil in food production but more importantly 
highlights the virtues of "low energy" farming. The contrast between 
the many hours worked by her father and uncle on their traditional 
farm compared to the leisurely lifestyle of those working with 
working with nature, is almost unbelievable.
