*Subject:* 17 April - Land & Ekta Parishad
We wanted to get information about this event out as soon as possible so
I hope you won't mind receiving it on Easter Day. Do pass on the
attached flyer to anyone you feel would be interested. Subir Sinha is an
excellent speaker.
17 April is the International Day of Peasant Struggle so it's a good day
to be meeting. Apologies in advance to those who receive this leaflet
twice but it is an important time for Ekta Parishad.
Best wishes, Mary Holmes
*What’s happening on land reform?*
**
*As you will know April is a very important month for Action Village
India partner, Ekta Parishad, and the campaign for land reform in
India.* A historic agreement between Ekta and the coalition of groups
taking part in the March for Justice was signed with the Indian
government on 11 October 2012. The government agreed to the marchers’ 10
demands on land reform and set up a Task Force to draft a National Land
Reforms Policy in the first 6 months.
On 17 April there will be a progress review of what has happened so far
and Ivan, who has recently returned from India, will be reporting back.
Has the Indian government kept its promises and what about the
relationship between the central government and the individual states?
Come and hear what has been happening.
The first speaker at the event will be Dr Subir Sinha, senior lecturer
at SOAS, who will look more generally at the difficulties ordinary
people face as the demands for land, from countries and corporations,
increase.
*Please come and join us and support Ekta Parishad*

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
Below and attached you will find the announcement for a speakers' tour

countries and if you would be interested to host an event in your home
country or know NGOs who might be interested, please let me know. All
details are (hopefully) included.
In addition please help us spread the announcement by forwarding and
posting it to your relevant lists and networks.
With many thanks

*Farmers’ Land into Farmers’ Hand!*
/EU-wide speakers’ tour on land grabbing in Romania during April 2013
Opportunity to host speakers/
*ARC2020 (1) is organising a 10 day EU-wide Speakers’ tour on
land-grabbing in Romania. It will take place from 21-30 April 2013. Mr
Attila Szocs who monitors large scale agricultural land purchases in
Romania, and Mr Dan Chismas a farmer and co-president of the
/EcoRuralis/ (2) peasant association will tour European capitals and
cities to highlight, debate and raise public awareness on the social,
environmental and economic impact of large scale land acquisition by
both, foreign and national companies.*
The speakers’ tour *team consists of three persons* and *includes a
translator* to translate *Romanian into French, German and/or English.*
Earlier this year, as part of the 4 day program surrounding the huge
demonstration against industrial farming (3) in Berlin attended by
25,000 people, /EcoRuralis/ members discussed land-grabbing as part of a
panel consisting of governmental and commercial representatives. You can
read more about the event here:
http://www.arc2020.eu/front/2013/01/romanians-confront-land-grab-%E2%80%98scout%E2%80%99/.
*How to get involved:*
Within the ARC2020 Speakers tour project, *funding is provided for the
travel costs of the speakers and the translator*. NGOs wishing to host
the team and organise events would need to cover the costs accruing
within their country such as accommodation, meals as well as potential
costs related to hosting the event etc. Both speakers and the translator
are happy to stay at private people’s home instead of hotels.
If you would like to host the team within the above dates and organise
one or several events, please contact Stephanie Roth at
campaign at arc2020.eu <mailto:campaign at arc2020.eu>
