Employment Law Update events

London 9th November

 <http://www.ier.org.uk/events/employment-law-update-2016-london> It's been
a busy year so far and difficult to predict just what our framework of
labour law will look like in the months and years ahead. However, what we do
know is that working people throughout the UK continue to face difficulties
at work due to attacks on their terms and conditions, attacks on their
employment rights and attacks on their access to justice. We don't need to
await the outcome of post-Brexit negotiations or wait for the dust to settle
from the political storm in Parliament to recognise that now more than ever,
trade union representatives need to be clear and up to date on employment
rights and

the developing case law.

As ever, the IER's annual Employment
<http://www.ier.org.uk/events/employment-law-update-2016-liverpool> Law
Update event brings together experts from across the legal and academic
professions together with a representative from the TUC. This year we are
very pleased that our event will be opened with a keynote address from the
President of the Tribunals, Judge Brian Doyle, updating us with an inside
account of the current ET practices and procedures. Other speakers will
focus on issues including changes to redundancy legislation and case law
developments, legal issues relating to the gender pay gap and an update on
developments relating to surveillance and monitoring at work.

Of course we could not hold a conference on labour law without considering
the implications of the recently enacted Trade Union Act and its
implications for trade unions and their members. Plus in an effort to focus
on the kind of laws we need in the future, we will hear an overview of the
IER's newly launched Manifesto for Labour Law: towards a comprehensive
revision of workers' rights.

At this conference expert speakers from trade unions, academia and the legal

profession will provide an update on recent developments while also

highlighting what aspects of the law are useful to those in the trade union
movement.
