Crowds cheer for IER proposals at Labour Party Conference 2019

At Labour Party Conference this week, we were proud to hear the crowd cheer and applaud the Institute of Employment Rights' recommendations for workers' rights.

Thousands of delegates gave Jeremy Corbyn a standing ovation when he confirmed the Labour Party will scrap the Trade Union Act 2016, and cheered at other IER proposals such as banning zero-hour contracts and scrapping youth rates.

John McDonnell's speech, which also announced IER recommendations, such as sectoral collective bargaining, was met with excitement and optimism from the crowds.

Some of our recommendations taken forward by Labour include:

*	The establishment of a Ministry of Labour (renamed a Ministry of Employment Rights)
*	The restoration of sectoral collective bargaining
*	The repeal of the Trade Union Act 2016
*	Real Living Wage
*	Equal rights for all workers from day one
*	Ban on zero-hour contracts
*	An independent Labour Inspectorate (renamed a Workers' Protection Agency)
*	Workers on company boards

See below for videos of Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell announcing the Labour Party's workers' rights plan, most of which is borne out of the IER's proposals.

In government, we’ll be knocking down walls for the trade union movement

Laura Pidcock, Shadow Minister for Employment Rights, says that in partnership with the Institute of Employment Rights she will work together with the unions, hand in hand, to transform our society.

Thomas Cook staff: The latest victims of a bankrupt corporate model

Professor David Whyte of the University of Liverpool explains how the recent crisis created by the collapse of Thomas Cook has been caused by laws that protect shareholders' profits moreso than the investments, earnings and wellbeing of consumers and workers.
